As a leader you have probably heard some of the best “blame’s” in the world. No one wants to take responsibility for anything unless it makes them look good. This doesn’t merely apply to the people you are leading, but to leaders as well. Playing the blame game is one of the quickest ways to lose credibility among those you are leading and among fellow leaders alike.

One of the keys to your leadership success is to make sure that this whole thing of blaming people is at a minimum. It’s your responsibility to create a culture where people simply fix the problem instead of blaming it on everyone else. There is an old Japanese proverb that goes like this, ‘Fix the problem, not the blame.’

Blame is like rust. It corrodes your business, organization, and team from the inside out. Unless you focus on fixing the problems, the blame game can ruin everything that you do. Of course, the first person to look at to find out if there is a culture of blame is you. As the leader, people will follow the example that you set. So, if you tend to place blame on others, it will be ten times worse with the people you are leading.

If you don’t blame, the next group of people that you need to look at are those that you have placed in leadership positions. If they tend to blame you then you have a corrosive problem at the very top. This will infect your people and make it almost impossible for them to listen to you because they will most likely follow the example of blaming that they have learned from the very person you placed in a leadership position.

If your leadership team is in tact, then you need to begin to look among everyone else. If there is a key person who constantly blames their mistakes on everyone else, deal with it immediately. If the person doesn’t change then the best thing to do is let them go or replace them. Of course, this isn’t always easy, but its better to deal with it now than have to deal with it when you have an uncontrollable rust problem in your organization.

Every year, the 3rd week of April marks an important date for the Junior Chamber International Philippines, the celebration of the “JAYCEE WEEK”. Said event is under Presidential Proclamation No. 97 dated April 12, 1999 declaring the 3rd week of every year as “National Jaycee Week”. This nationwide event is geared towards creating public awareness through a concerted effort by the organization’s 150 local chapters all over the country. This is thru the implementation of common projects during the celebration of the National Jaycee Week that creates bigger impact and to promote the organization on its existence through the years.

This year’s week long celebration will be from 15th to 21st on the month of April. In line with this, a series of activities are lined up to be executed that will not only highlight the areas of opportunities offered by the organization but also help promote the JCI in all the communities as well. To keep up with the tradition, the different activities to be undertaken will be correlated with the tenets of the Jaycee Creed. All local chapters are encouraged to be creative in their execution of lined up projects to gain a bigger impact and to maximize the promotion of the Jaycee organization not only in our country but to the whole world as well. This year’s National Chairman is JCI Mem. Larry Alcantara, Past President of the JCI Pateros Balut.

The activities to be undertaken in co relation with the tenets of the Jaycee Creed are as follows:

PRE Jaycee Week Activities

Chapters are enjoined to conduct Radio/TV program and simultaneous Press Releases to national dailies and local tabloids to promote the said activity.

Day 1 - APRIL 15, SUNDAY: That faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life

Offer thanksgiving Mass with JCI Members and Families and organize a launching activity for the Jaycee Week Celebration by having a motorcade, parade, radio and TV interview, press releases and display streamers to announce the different activities to be undertaken during the week.

Day 2 - APRIL 16, MONDAY: That brotherhood of men transcends the sovereignty of nations

Recruitment and Retention Programs – Sports Activities with JCI Members and families members

Day 3 - APRIL 17, TUESDAY: That economic justice can best be won by freemen through free enterprise

Entrepreneurial Seminars in line with NOM Theme “Be Better” that involves the business sector, projects that could augment the economic status in the community. To include livelihood programs for the benefit of the community.

Day 4 - APRIL 18, WEDNESDAY: That government should be of laws rather than of men

Conduct seminars and projects that could develop the total well being of members and well the children and youth. Activities that will focus on the leadership development of members and the youth like conducting seminars on the leadership LSOPP, Vanguard Leaders, Impact Leader, Making a Team, seven habits, etc.

Day 5 - APRIL 19, THURSDAY: That earth’s great treasure lies in human personality

Personality Development Seminar /Seminars on current issues
Activities that could improve mental development
Reactivation of the JCI Junior Jaycees
Activities that could develop physically healthy individuals

Day 6 - APRIL 20, FRIDAY: That service to humanity is the best work of life
Conduct Linis Bayan / Community Service, Linis Bayan / Community Service, Health, Children, Youth and Women, Government Affairs

Warm greetings from the National Training Commission!

After the successful JCI Week Celebration, another celebration will come before us which is one of the hallmarks of our organization – TRAINING! MAY 2007 in JCI Philippines’ NATIONAL TRAINING MONTH!

We are encouraging everyone to conduct trainings in the month of May through these 4 channels.

ENTREPRENUERSHIP

JCI as an organization of entrepreneurs, let’s conduct training programs that will help our members become better business people. Chapters can partner together to organization seminars on topics depending on the needs of its members:

a. Selling skills
b. Customer Service
c. Business plan basics
d. Financial management
e. Basics on investing
f. Marketing

We suggest we get JCI trainers who are subject matter experts or non-JCI members who are specialist on the business and entrepreneurship.

LEADERSHIP

There are numerous seminars on leadership, let’s try to conduct seminar on focus areas that address the needs of our local officers and board members. Perhaps we could invite experienced and respected leaders in our community and in JCI to talk on some specific topics on leadership. Other JCI certified trainers can be commissioned to conduct seminars on well-topics such as the following:

a. John Maxwell’s Laws of Leadership
b. Power and Authority
c. Inspirational Leadership
d. Principle centered leadership
e. Leadership with a purpose
f. Conflict management

MANAGEMENT

How to better manage our chapter? How do improve our managerial skills? How do better manage my time? How can I come up with a better project? Seminars may be conducted to fill in the need for knowledge and enhance learning for our members and officers. We have plenty of JCI trainers who can run these seminars.

TRAINER

You are on your way to become a professional trainer someday. Just take one step to become one by joining world class training for trainers in JCI Asia Pacific in Taiwan.

a. JCI Presenter (free registration – May 30-31, 2007)
b. JCI Trainer (free registration – May 30-31, 2007)
c. JCI Designer ($150.00 May 30-31, 2007)

We also encourage Area and Regional Training Directors to conduct special meetings – Area Trainers Forum - for trainers in your respective localities. We could invite senior trainers or professional trainer or company trainer to conduct special sessions specifically for trainers.

Chapter who managed to encouraged their trainers to become CERTIFIED TRAINERS such as CLT, CNT, NG or IG.

EARN JCPEA POINTS FOR TRAINING CONDUCTED IN MAY

CLUSTER TRAINING – for joining training, 2 points per chapter with a minimum of 5 participants

HOSTING CHAPTER/S – get 5 pionts (if two host, points shall be shared)

Training during the month of May shall be certified by RTD and concurred by ATD. As agreed during the 2nd National Board Meeting, it’s the NVP who shall approved the seminars for crediting to JCPEA. Certification and concurrence of RTD and ATD may be done through email.

For chapters who sent their members to JCI Prime (now JCI Presenter in Taiwan) chapter get 2 points per graduate with maximum of 6 points

For JCI Excel (now JCI Designer) – 2 points per graduate with a maximum 6 points.

HOW TO ORGANIZE

We encourage chapters to collaborate by co-hosting certain seminar programs. Co-hosting promote teamwork and better synergy among chapters. It would be best for ATD and RTD to make special effort to initiate collaboration among chapters.

ORGANIZE & DOCUMENT IT!

Run seminars at par with our stature as an organization – prestige, high quality and exceptional execution. Good venue, well-promoted, good topic mix, on-time program and well-organized delivery (name tags, streamer, handouts, certificates, tokens for trainers, snacks to fill the tummy and equipments).

Please take note streamers must have the following content in order for seminar to be credited

JCI Logo (accurate and correct logo)

Name of chapter (must be JCI _________ )

JCI Theme (Be Better)

Seminar Topic/s

Must indicate “National Training Month”
Name of Trainer/Speakers, Date and Venue

DON’T FORGET TO REPORT IT!
