Please Submit your Leadership Story to JCI
Dear JCI Member,
Dr. Todd Thomas, co-author of Chicken Soup for the Soul: Life Lessons for Leaders, scheduled for publication in 2008, has asked JCI to submit true leadership stories to be included in the book. With a first printing of 500,000 copies, this book is part of the widely acclaimed Chicken Soup for the Soul series.
The “Life Lessons” books are different from the typical Chicken Soup book in their focus on learning and application. Each chapter is focused on a different “key ingredient” and uses the stories as illustrations of a learning point. At the end of each chapter is a worksheet or exercise to help the reader apply the learning to their everyday life.
Stories should be in English, between 300 and 1200 words, and reflect an actual experience of the author or an illustration of an experience about which they are aware. Chicken Soup stories are inspirational as well as educational and use vivid imagery to pull the reader into the context of the story.
While the structure of Chicken Soup for the Soul: Life Lessons for Leaders may change in production, the following chapters will provide guidelines for your submission. Please let us know which chapter you feel is most appropriate for your story.

6. On Empowerment and Execution
7. On Respect
Contributing a story also gives you an opportunity to include a short paragraph about yourself, promoting your latest book, project, etc. It has been reported to us that those paragraphs have been great advertisements for sales of books and other endeavors. Dr. Cherie Carter Scott, author of If Life is a Game, These are the Rules, has sold hundreds of thousands of books as a result of people writing her after reading her bio in A 2nd Helping of Chicken Soup for the Soul. She also appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show as a result of this!
Please submit your story to your JCI Area Director (copy your National President) by June 25, 2007.
Your leadership story will be submitted for possible publication in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Life Lessons for Leaders. Additionally, it will be considered for posting on the JCI website and for publication in JCI Leader. If the story you write is published in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Life Lessons for Leaders, you will be paid $200 upon publication.
